Fabric Oology Series
The Fabric Oology Series is a tactile study of the anatomy and architecture of a bird’s nest, woven by the human hand. It explores the relationships with and use of material in nature, by the artist as creator and scientist seeking understanding of their environment. Part of an ongoing series concerned in Oology, the artist follows a unique semi artistic and scientific model; recording each period of construction to compare the timescale with that of the bird in question. The work extracts a visceral and physical understanding of the bird’s painstaking construction methods and relationship with material by impersonating these processes. The artist forms a connection with the bird through mimicked material manipulation whilst acknowledging their position as abstracted from nature.
